Wedding photography prices and packages
Most wedding photography packages include a combination of the following elements:
The duration of one photographer taking photographs on your wedding day. Often, the package details “up to 6 hours”, or “up to 8 hours”, or “from ceremony until the speeches”. The length of time of the photographer taking photographs obviously affects the price of the package.
Some wedding photographers offer the option to hire a second photographer. Most wedding photographers assume the second photographer will be there for the same length of time as the main photographer.
It may include a pre-wedding photo session. This is a session that takes place months before the wedding. Some people also call it an engagement photo shoot. It’s like a play shoot where you can get to know your photographer, and they get to know you. More INFO ABOUT Pre-SHOOTS on this page.
The package might include a USB memory stick with the edited photographs in high resolution (this means you can use the images to make your own prints or albums online, using the suppliers you choose).
The package should say how many photographs you can expect to receive after your wedding. which can be linked to Google drive
Traditionally, photographers would include a selection of prints (6″x4″, or 7″x5″, 8 X10 24X36 or a large one for the wall, but not many photographers do that these days).
Most photographers will give you access to your own password-protected online gallery, safe and private so you can share the photos with family and friends. Often this gallery allows you and your relatives to purchase individual prints at prices set by the photographer.
It might include a wedding album. This is also difficult to compare, as there are so many album suppliers out there. Photo books that can last very long very pleasing to the eyes
It might include one framed wedding photograph or a canvas print for your wall. It should say the size of the frame or canvas (or other product), and when you can expect to receive it.
It might include a preview album which is a photo book showing all edited photographs printed in an inexpensive book. This is not a wedding album.
The photographer might create a little video with music showing the best photos of your wedding.
The package should detail all the elements that are part of the photographer’s service. It should show a price, either including or excluding VAT. It should also spell out clearly how much of a deposit is required to secure the booking, and when the payment for the full package price is due. This varies from country to country. Here in Scotland, it is common to have all the fees paid approximately one month to 2 weeks before the wedding.
The photographer should also let you know what payment methods they accept, such as BACS (bank transfer), cheque, card payments and so on
Sooner is always better when it comes to booking your wedding photographer, especially when you have a specific vendor in mind. If you’re planning to use your engagement photos for your save the dates, book your photographer at least 10 months or more in advance. (Save-the-dates go out four to eight months before your wedding.) The longer you wait, the more likely your favorite photographers are to be booked up,
Wedding photography is a significant investment. That’s why it’s important to thoroughly vet photographers before signing on the dotted line. But how do you find trustworthy wedding vendor reviews? For starters, ask around. “I find most of my work is referral based, either from past couples or fellow vendors,” Millay said. “Don’t be afraid to ask your vendors for their recommendations. They won’t recommend someone they don’t know, trust, and like working with.”
You can try to negotiate with your wedding photographer, but most prices are set in stone. Photographers offer scaled packages at different price points to meet clients where they are and to take the negotiation out of it. Packages factor in fees like editing software, gear, licenses, insurance, and other business items brides and grooms don’t see. For photographers, negotiating could lead to hardly breaking even, or even losing money. Some photographers are willing to work with couples’ budgets on rare occasions, though. Millay says if the bride or groom has been dreaming of working with her but can’t afford her, she’s willing to hear them out. Just know this is the exception, not the norm.
Not all brides and grooms tip their wedding photographers, but if you decide to, $50 to $150 is a good range,. “I would say around 50 percent of people tip their vendors,” “Of course, tips aren’t required, but they’re always appreciated.”
Payment schedules vary, but most photographers choose a two or three-payment system. The first payment is the deposit, which is typically due along with the signed contract. This deposit secures your date. With a two-payment schedule, the second payment — the rest of the agreed-upon fee — is due before the wedding. In a three-payment schedule, photographers split that last payment and require clients to pay after the wedding when all images are finished and ready for delivery.
